ICL lens implantation
ICL lenses are intraocular lenses made of a very soft material called collamer. They can be imagined as contact lenses to be permanently implanted in the eye for correction of vision defects. ICLs are placed by the surgeon in the groove present behind the iris and anterior to the lens. Their optical quality is very high and they make it possible to correct refractive defects if they are very high or in cases where the eye and cornea are not suitable for surface laser treatment(PRK or Femto Lasik).
The procedure involves a 3-millimeter incision of the cornea, insertion of the lens through a special injector and its placement below the iris. ICL is approved by the US FDA and has already been implanted in more than 2 million patients.
