Ophthalmology and eye surgery practice of Dr. Paolo Cecchini

Dr. Cecchini specializes in many eye diseases such as cataracts, strabismus, correction of visual defects by laser technique (Femtolasik and PRK), myopia, phakic intraocular lens (ICL) implantation, and correction of presbyopia by lensectomy with multifocal intraocular lens implantation.

Cataracts

Cataracts are the opacification of the lens of the eye, the natural lens located inside the eye and responsible, along with the cornea, for focusing images.

Intraocular lenses

The traditional intraocular lens is the monofocal lens. It allows focusing at one distance, typically for distance.

Lensectomy for refractive purposes

Lensectomy is a procedure that is technically identical to cataract surgery, but in a person who has not yet developed lens opacification.

ICL lens implantation

ICL lenses are intraocular lenses made of a very soft material called collamer. They can be envisioned as contact lenses to be permanently implanted in the eye for correction of defects.

FemtoLasik and PRK for hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism

Refractive defects are corrected by excimer laser treatment. This laser is able to reshape the contour of the cornea, by ablation of the cornea, in an extremely precise and gentle manner.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is the progressive loss of the ability to focus near that occurs naturally from the age of 40-45 years.

Dr. Paolo Cecchini

I graduated in 1997 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Trieste with a final grade of 110/110 cum laude. In 2001, I received my specialization in Ophthalmology with a final grade of 50/50 cum laude, from the University of Trieste.

In 2008, I completed a Fellowship in Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology at Queen’s Medical Centre, University of Nottingham, UK.

In 2016, I received my PhD degree in Nanotechnology from the University of Trieste.

In the years following my residency, I first worked at the Humanitas Scientific Institute (Humanitas Research Hospital) in Rozzano, Milan, Italy, and later delved into the field of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus working at the association “La Nostra Famiglia” in Pasian di Prato, Udine, Italy. Since 2009, I have been a liaison to the Orthoptics Service of the Eye Clinic of the University of Trieste.

I have always been interested in research. Over the years I have published numerous scientific articles in international “peer-reviewed” journals and still continue research in the field of cataract surgery and refractive surgery.
