Lensecotia for refractive purposes

Lensectomy for refractive purposes

Lensectomy is a procedure that is technically identical to cataract surgery, but in a person who has not yet developed lens opacification. It is performed for refractive purposes, that is, for the correction of visual defects.

The procedure is often performed in people in the age of presbyopia who wish to no longer have to use reading glasses. Typically, the surgery involves the implantation of multifocal lenses, which provide good distance, intermediate distance, and near vision. More rarely, due to special needs or personal choice, EDOF lenses are implanted, which allow good vision even for intermendia distance without relevant dysphotopia effects such as haloes or rays around point light sources in the evening.

Refer to the dedicated section for the advantages and disadvantages of different lenses.
